Colima Coast
The Colima coast refers to the approximately 100 km of coastline from the border with Jalisco to the border with Michoacán. Several popular beach destinations dot the state, including the three different cities comprising the Manzanillo metropolitan area, as well as smaller beach destinations such as Cuyutlán, El Paraíso, Boca de Pascuales and El Real.
Manzanillo is Colima’s second largest city, and Mexico’s busiest port on the Pacific Coast. While the southern portion of the city is decidedly urban and industrial, the northern suburbs of Santiago and Salahua are very much geared towards tourism and have sizeable expat community. This area is home to Club Santiago, a private gated community with a beach club, golf course and private beach acess. Similarly, Salahua is home to Las Hadas resort, and La Punta, which is dotted which luxury villas and exclusive condominium buildings.
The rest of the Colima coast is characterized by long sandy beaches, typically with tall waves and sometimes strong currents. Unlike the calm waters of Manzanillo Bay, these beaches are typically more appropriate for surfers, and for those looking to have beach front properties with access to the surf and sand. Cuyutlán and El Paraíso are close to each other, located on the same stretch of sand beach. Across the Río Armeria is Boca de Pascuales and El Real. These two are world renown as surf destinations.
